Below are details from our 2019 "God's Work, Our Hands" event. Information about our 2020 event, tentatively scheduled for October 4, will be posted when it becomes available.
Dear Friends,
On Sunday, October 6 we will celebrate God’s Work, Our Hands Sunday. This church-wide initiative happens in congregations throughout the country during the fall. It is a day dedicated to being of service to our community and a wonderful opportunity to live out our mission to, “Welcome, Worship and SERVE!” Several service opportunities for people of all ages and physical abilities are being planned.
Schedule for God’s Work Our Hands Sunday
12:00 p.m. Brown bag lunches distributed to volunteers in Fellowship Hall. You can eat your lunch right away, on the way to your work site, or save it for later. Lunch will include a peanut butter & jelly sandwich. If you have a nut allergy, please contact the office by October 1st and we will make a peanut-free lunch for you.
12:30 p.m. All teams should report to their designated work site.
2:00 p.m. Leave work sites and meet at Monument Square on Main Street in Downtown Racine.
2:15-3:00 p.m. Hand out brown bag lunches at Monument Square in downtown Racine.
3:25 p.m. Everyone should be home in time for Kickoff
To sign up for God’s Work, Our Hands Sunday, go to Sign-Up Genius, or call the church office at (262) 634-6704. Here is a list of volunteer opportunities for the day:
Sandwich Makers: Make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches in the kitchen between services from 9:30-10:45 a.m. on October 6th. Adults and teens only.
Brown Bag Lunch Assembly Line: Help fill brown bags with sandwiches, granola bars, fruit, etc. in Fellowship Hall from 12:30-1:45 p.m. All ages, children with parents.
Habitat ReStore Project: Report to Habitat Restore at 2302 Dekoven Avenue in Racine, and work on a project there. May require lifting and bending. 12:30 - 2:00 p.m. Adults only.
Hospitality Center: Report to 614 Main Street (St. Luke’s Episcopal Church) to sort and bag clothing for the Hospitality Center’s Clothing Closet, from 12:30-2:00 p.m. All ages, children with parents.
Community Clean-Up: Meet outside in the church labyrinth. Clean up trash along a designated area in Racine. This is an outdoor activity. All ages, children with parents.
Flash Mob of Love Brown Bag Give-Away: For our grand finale, we will meet at Monument Square (between 5th& 6th& Main Streets) in Downtown Racine and hand out the brown bag lunches that were packed during our work time. Everyone from each site is invited to join us for this fun and meaningful finale to our day!
Participants should wear comfortable clothes that are suitable for the weather and activity you are participating in. If you have a shirt from previous years or a live generously shirt, you can wear that, but any comfortable clothing and footwear is fine. We have a limited number of shirts in the church office. If you would like one, email the church office by October 1.
This is an exciting ministry and a wonderful chance to be the hands and feet of Jesus in our community. I hope you’ll join in!
