What Holy Week Services Should I Attend?

What Holy Week Services Should I Attend?

What Holy Week Services Should I attend?  Let’s see?  There is Maundy Thursday, the day the Lord instituted the Lord’s Supper and the day we are given personal absolution for our sins.  This is a process that started on Ash Wednesday.  I don’t want to miss that.  The Lord’s Supper is the receiving the real presence of Jesus.  The altar will be stripped and we will be prepared for the great sacrificial gift of God.  I will not miss that.

Then there is Good Friday.  This is the day we connect with the greatest love the world has known — the gift of God’s Son for us.  We join the faithful everywhere at the foot of the cross and wonder at this tremendous gift of grace.  Job once asked God if God knew what it was like to be a human being and experience suffering.  The cross is Job’s answer.  We want to stand near the cross.  I will not miss that.

Then there is Easter which can only be fully experienced once we have experienced what Easter has overcome on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday – of course I’d never miss Easter, but if I’m missing Maundy Thursday and Good Friday I am missing it’s full meaning.

What Holy Week Services Should I attend?  God has done great things for us and these services have us experiencing these gifts.
